Climate change is among the most critical challenges facing Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand – it will impact all our communities and industries.

As an Auckland Council-controlled organisation, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited plays a key role in the implementation of the economy section of Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan and contributes to Auckland Council Group’s emissions reduction target for the region of 50 per cent by 2030.

Our sustainability work consists of:

  • Our corporate programme of work to enable Tātaki Auckland Unlimited to become a sustainable future-focused organisation. This includes emissions reduction planning across all our assets and venues, waste minimisation programmes, sustainable procurement, cultural capacity building and wellbeing programmes for our people, and more.
  • Externally focused activities that aim to accelerate Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s climate response and support the transition to a more resilient, low carbon and regenerative economy. This includes investment and partnership with other organisations that work to create better outcomes for Auckland’s environment, businesses and communities.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s Sustainability Story provides an overview of the organisation’s actions and activities undertaken in the 2021/22 financial year in line with its priorities around climate change and sustainability. These priorities are defined by the strategic outcomes highlighted in our Statement of Intent 2022–2025
