Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is recovering from a series of severe weather events that led to widespread flooding and damages.
On Auckland anniversary weekend, an unprecedented storm event caused flash floods and other impacts on lives, homes, possessions and businesses. This led to the declaration of a local State of Emergency on 27 January. On 12-14 February, another major storm event, Cyclone Gabrielle, followed. A National state of emergency was invoked as thousands of people were displaced, with widespread damages across large parts of the North Island
A National State of Emergency was declared on 14 February, with the region transitioning to recovery mode from Friday, 3 March.
Several agencies are coordinating support and clean up efforts, including Auckland Emergency Management, Civil Defence, Auckland Council and central government.
