Auckland’s Aotea Square, the Harbour Bridge, Sky Tower, and Auckland War Memorial Museum are just some of the local landmarks being lit up for Elemental AKL 2022 – Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s favourite mid-year festival kicking off on Thursday 14 July at multiple venues and public spaces.

The 18-day Elemental AKL festival is an annual celebration of Auckland’s arts, eats and beats brought together in a world-class season of some of the very best cultural, creative, and culinary events and experiences from across the region.

From 14 – 31 July, iconic landmarks and places will be lit up in the distinctive pink and purple colours of Elemental AKL, transforming the night and surroundings into vivid backgrounds against which Aucklanders and visitors can indulge in the unique Elemental AKL experience.

The Sky Tower, Eden Park, Auckland Harbour Bridge, Queen Street and Aotea Square will be drenched in shades  ranging from violet to hot pink from this Thursday 14 July, with the Viaduct, Te Ara I Whiti – the Light Path, and the Auckland War Memorial Museum following suit later in the week.

A dazzling laser light show and projections will play against the façade of the Auckland Town Hall each night of the festival, while the Elemental Hub in Aotea Square will feature giant, illuminated, inflatable mushrooms, towering pendulum light shows and playful roaming LED cats.

Downtown at Commercial Bay, Elemental AKL’s monumental digital AI art installation Quantum Memories, by UKTurkish multi-media artist Refik Anadol, will tower above shoppers in the busy precinct; the Takapuna Winter Lights will set Hurstmere Road ablaze with light installations by acclaimed artist Angus Muir, and a light and video tribute to the artists of east Auckland will wow in Howick’s Fencible Walk Park.
