For the sixth year¹ running, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited has gained Toitū carbonreduce certification, demonstrating its ongoing dedication to reduce climate impacts. In addition, Auckland Zoo, a division of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, has been awarded Toitū net carbonzero certification for the ninth¹ consecutive year.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, the region’s economic and cultural agency, is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50 per cent by 2030, in line with carbon reduction goals set in Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland's Climate Plan. This plan follows Auckland Council declaring a climate emergency in 2019.

The certification measured emissions consumed by activities across Tātaki Auckland Unlimited operations including Auckland Live, Auckland Conventions, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, Auckland Stadiums, Auckland Zoo, New Zealand Maritime Museum, non-production film studios, GridAKL and its corporate unit.

About Toitū certifications

Toitū net carbonzero certified means measuring emissions to ISO 14064-1:2018 and Toitū requirements; managing and reducing against Toitū requirements; and compensating remaining emissions following Toitū requirements and covering a minimum of the total Toitū boundary.

A Toitū carbonreduce certified organisation has measured and managed the operational emissions of its organisation, including business travel, electricity, vehicles and offices, in accordance with ISO 14064-1 and the GHG Protocol.

Toitū Envirocare aims to build momentum, inspire change and take credible action towards a sustainable world. Based on science and backed by evidence, its Toitū carbonreduce, Toitū carbonzero certifications give organisations the tools to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact.

Certification documents for Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and Auckland Zoo will be available online in late 2024.

¹ Our Toitū certification now reflects six years of carbon reporting, incorporating the pre-merger emissions data from Regional Facilities Auckland (RFA), Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and Auckland Zoo, alongside four years of reporting as Auckland Unlimited/Tātaki Auckland Unlimited.
